Trebbiano Spoletino
Grapevine
To grasp what this variety represents for the tradition of this land, it is enough to get down from the hills of Montefalco towards Spoleto going across the luxuriant valley. Here, it is quite common to find big centennials and ungrafted vines. Sometimes they are staked to maples, elms or ashes according to the ancient vite maritata growing system, standing out among the flat and variegated vegetable gardens.
The Trebbiano Spoletino is a vigorous variety, resistant to most diseases. Its thick skin makes it resistant also to the most irregular years. Even very hot and arid years aren’t a big issue for it thanks to its high vigor and natural acidity, characteristics that develop during the long ripening season. These qualities outline the originality of the Trebbiano Spoletino, a truly unique variety.
In Central Italy, no other white grapes have such traits. In fact, in this area whites generally reveal a softer profile which relies on the savory trait, rather than on vertical and marked acidity.
